A Maryland man who usually dressed up as Batman to visit sick children
was struck and killed by a car on Sunday night. Lenny B. Robinson, 51, was on
his way going home from a car show when police said his batmobile-like black
Lamborghini had engine trouble according to reports.
Robinson got out of his car to inspect the vehicle when a truck hit the
Lamborghini, which then hit Robinson. The crash is still under investigation, and
no charges have been filed yet.
Robinson achieved notoriety in 2012 when a video went viral of cops
pulling him over in full Batman costume. The officers soon discovered Robinson
was a Baltimore County businessman who dressed up as the Caped Crusader and
went to hospitals visiting sick children.
“I’m
just doing it for the kids,” he told The Post in 2012.
Robinson, who said he became interested in Batman through his son,
Brandon, freely gave his time – but also a whole lot more. He bought the suit for $5,000 and spent
$25,000 a year on Batman memorabilia he signed – as Batman, of course – for the
kids.
“Eventually, it sinks in and you become him,” Robinson once
said.
“It
feels like I have a responsibility that’s beyond a normal person. And that
responsibility is to be there for the kids, to be strong for them, and to make
them smile as much as I can.”
