Computer
hackers, the Impact Team, who
breached AshleyMadison.com, a dating website that targets married people, are
reportedly beginning to share the site's user data online to expose cheating
spouses. The site at the time had over 40 million members. The owner of Ashley Madison,
Avid Life Media (ALM), also owns
other related dating sites, Cougar Life
and Established Men, whose data was also compromised.
The
hackers uploaded 9.7 gigabytes of data on Tuesday that appear to include member
account details and log-ins for the social networking site, which exhorts
prospective users, "Life is short.
Have an affair." The hackers threatened to release the full data
unless Ashley Madison and its sister sites — Cougar Life and Established Men —
were shut down.
